Summer Adventures to Fall Performances: UCMP Students are Ready for an Encore!

We are excited to share some fantastic updates and achievements from this summer, along with what's coming up in the fall!

UCMP Latin Jazz Ensemble to Perform at the JC Latin Jazz Festival and Weehawken Day!

We're thrilled to announce that UCMP's Latin Jazz Ensemble will be performing at two major events  tomorrow, Saturday September 14th! Our wonderful musicians will perform at the First Annual Jersey City Latin Jazz Festival, which will take place at the Exchange Place Plaza in Jersey City. A huge thanks to Riverview Jazz for making this possible!

Immediately after their performance, Enildo Rasua, our Latin Jazz Ensemble's Director, will be giving a drum class at the RWJBarnabas Community Zone at 2:30pm at the JC Latin Jazz Festival. This event is free and open to the general public.

Right after their performance in Jersey City, our young musicians will head towards Weehawken to perform at Weehawken Day, an annual event for Weehawken residents organized by the Township of Weehawken and held at Lincoln Harbor from 12-6:00pm. It will be a beautiful day filled with fun activities and music.

These performances are a fantastic opportunity for our talented students to showcase their skills and passion for music in front of diverse audiences. We hope to see you there supporting our young musicians!

UCMP Kids Go Camping and Make Music at Princeton-Blairstown!

From July 26th-28th, UCMP students once again attended the Princeton-Blairstown Center for our sleep-away camp as members of El Sistema New Jersey Alliance. In this annual tradition, our students embraced the great outdoors with thrilling activities like hiking, canoeing, and team-building exercises.

The highlight, as always, was the music, as they joined forces with peers from Patterson Music Project, Trenton Music Makers, Keys to Success, and Sister Cities Girl Choir for inspiring jam sessions. It was an experience filled with fun, collaboration, and the powerful bond that only music can create!

Get Ready for "A Night on the Hudson"!

Don’t forget, our annual "A Night on the Hudson" fundraising event is just around the corner! Join us on November 13th at the Chart House in Weehawken for an unforgettable evening of music, stories, and celebration.Tickets will go on sale on September 19th, so be sure to secure yours early and support the incredible work UCMP is doing in our community!

YOLA National Music Festival and Leadership Summit

This summer, UCMP’s Sofia Santana and Sebastián Chang were selected to participate in the YOLA National Music Festival in Los Angeles. They spent 10 days playing alongside young musicians from El Sistema programs across the United States, learning from top-notch instructors, and experiencing the joy of performing in an orchestra.

Additionally, Nailah Gutierrez represented UCMP as a student ambassador at the YOLA Leadership Summit, where she gained invaluable leadership skills and made lasting connections with peers from different parts of the country. We’re so proud of their achievements and can’t wait to see how they’ll continue to inspire others in our community.

UCMP Students at the Ravinia National Seminario: Orchestras for All

Three UCMP standout students, Andrés Márquez, Michelle Argueta, and Matías Oyarzun, attended the Ravinia National Seminario in Chicago. You can watch a video here. Under the guidance of UCMP Program Director Katherine Luces, who served as their chaperone, they spent three days—from July 7-10— immersed in intensive orchestral training, connecting with other young musicians, and broadening their musical horizons. This experience has further solidified their dedication to music, and we’re excited to see the growth and creativity they’ll bring back to UCMP.

As we head into the new school year, we’re filled with excitement and anticipation for all that lies ahead. Thank you for being part of our journey and for your continued support of UCMP. Let’s make this year the best one yet!

Warm regards,

The UCMP Team
