Dear UCMP Family,
Today marks the official 14th anniversary of United Children’s Music Project (UCMP)! What began in 2012 with 54 young children in Union City has grown into a vibrant musical community that has served hundreds of students and families.
UCMP was created to ensure that children in our community would have access to high-quality, orchestral music education regardless of their family’s financial circumstances.

What began as a small program has become a powerful community where children learn far more than music. They develop confidence, discipline, teamwork, and leadership—and they discover that their voices and their music matter.
As we celebrate our anniversary month, we thank every teacher, family, donor, volunteer, trustee, and community partner who has helped us make this journey possible. A special recognition to the Weehawken Township where we are hosted thanks to the support of Mayor Richard F. Turner and Council Members.
UCMP has always been more than a music program. It is a community built on collaboration, generosity, and a shared belief in the power of music to change lives!
Thank you for being part of the UCMP family and for helping us build a brighter future for our children.
Ps: I wrote an article about what led me to create UCMP and why, which you can read here.
With gratitude, Melina Garcia Founder & Executive Director United Children’s Music Project 🎻
